The playful play on words draws young readers in with “Ten red apples hanging on a tree. Yippee, fiddle-dee-fee!” But they are not there for long. All the farm animals including a Horse, cow, donkey, pig, hen each eat one. “Save one for me,” calls the farmer. But what about the farmer’s wife?

How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long

Caldecott Honor-winning illustrator David Shannon teams up with witty storyteller Melinda Long for a hilarious look at the finer points of pirate life. When Braid Beard’s pirate crew invites Jeremy Jacob to join their voyage, he jumps right on board. Buried treasure, sea chanteys, pirate talk; who wouldn’t go along? As you open the pages of this colorful fall story, you discover there are lots of beautiful fall leaves to find!
