Renewable energy is something my family is passionate about living and teaching to our kids. I hope you, your children, and your classroom are able to join me Friday, May 20, 2016, 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, on YouTube (45 minutes) for an unforgettable Virtual Field Trip to Mojave Desert and Palmyra Atoll. During this virtual journey, we will learn about how communities are powering the planet with renewable energy.
We read in textbooks about ways that renewable sources of energy such as sunlight and wind that help to fuel our cars, charge our cell phones, and keep our lights on in our homes.

NOTE: As a huge advocate for using renewable resources to power our daily activities (We put solar panels on our first home and were almost entirely run by Solar Power!) We are also in the process of working with an environmentally friendly landscaper. Our goal is to create an edible and more environmentally friendly yard. I truly cannot wait to watch this live even with my children. I’m excited to see how others in our community are making a difference.

Along with classrooms and families around the world, see how scientists are harnessing the power of the elements to create renewable energy, while caring for the environment.
How the field trip works.
Led by scientist, Alex Wegmann, this journey will take students from a remote cluster of islands atop coral reefs. These islands are run mainly with renewable resources. We will then travel to the massive solar panel installations in the desert that provide enough energy to light large cities.
The field trip is designed for grades 3-8, but all viewers are welcome! The content is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards.
